Arcata House Partnership Night Shelter

Arcata House Partnership Night Shelter

In early 2002, volunteers from local faith communities began meeting to explore establishing an emergency shelter for homeless persons in the area. When a one-time grant became available, the shelter was opened in December 2002.

The adult shelter, formerly the night shelter, is a long-term shelter facility for adults without children. Staffed 24 hours and with a capacity for 20 people, clients stay at the shelter while they get back on their feet and find independent living. Clients meet with a case manager to apply for services, identify barriers to housing, and help learn life skills education.

Volunteers from our local faith communities prepare and deliver hot dinners every night to shelter clients. Meals consist of a main dish, side dish and possibly fruit, dessert, and/or milk. Faith members include Arcata Presbyterian Church, Arcata United Methodist Church, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Temple Beth El, and Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Arcata Presbyterian Church provides dinners on the first, third and fifth Fridays each month.
