Jeremiah 29:11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. (NRVS)
We believe that mission means living the Gospel of Jesus Christ as we share God's love, compassion, grace and mercy helping others. We understand that there are many ways for that help to be offered: locally, nationally and globally. We know that through helping others it is often ourselves who are helped the most. A stronger sense of community within our own congregation is fostered through working together to share God's mercy and compassion.
MISSION PROJECTS OF THE YEAR
CHRISTMAS BASKET PROGRAM
Every year approximately one hundred baskets, full of food, along with children's gifts are passed out at our church to community members in need of help during the Christmas season.
Project SERRV Pre-Christmas Sale
Handmade, fair traded gift items from the U.S. and many developing countries are ordered by church members and purchased before Christmas each year.
2 Cents A Meal Program, part of the Hunger Task Group, Presbytery of the Redwoods. We will be collecting coins from families to go to this program. The originator, Rosellyn Calvert, stated that "We will never see world peace until we wipe out hunger." One of the recipients of this money is Betty Chinn of Eureka who has received several thousand dollars from the 2 Cents A Meal program to help fund her feeding of the homeless in the greater Eureka area.
Each year we collect a few hundred paperback books to donate to the Humboldt County Jail.
KIDS SEWING PROJECT
With the help of adults, the children are making quilts. These beautiful quilts are given to local shelters that house children.
HEIFER BAKE SALE
Baked goods provided by church members are sold by the children. The money raised is donated to Heifer International, an organization that provides animals and training in many countries throughout the world.
